The first sunset photo from our new mountain cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of upper Ashe County NC, with White Pines and Black Birches instead of those familiar Loblolly Pines and Sweetgums of our former residence and study site in the South Carolina Piedmont.

One thing we really enjoy at Hilton Pond North in the Blue Ridge Mountains of upper Ashe County NC is watching the way sunlight and shadows play on the ridges and valleys surrounding us—especially at dusk. It's just breathtaking. That's Phoenix Mountain in the distance.

Brief pop-up thunderstorms blew through about dusk, not quite clearing the air of haze but making for a pleasant moonrise to the east. Although it was be quite bright out, the May full Moon didn't occur until two days later.
